Health Facilities Maintenance Planning

All health facilities in Alberta are inspected regularly to assess their physical condition to ensure hospitals, clinics and health facilities are safe for patients and employees and are able to accommodate the effective delivery of health programs and services.

Funding for health facilities capital maintenance and renewal is administered by Alberta Infrastructure through the Infrastructure Maintenance Program (IMP) (Section 6.0). IMP funding generally covers projects such as the repair or replacement of electrical systems, roofing, heating, plumbing, and elevators.

Annually, Alberta Health Services submits a list of renewal and maintenance projects to Alberta Infrastructure and Alberta Health. Those projects are reviewed to ensure they meet the IMP program eligibility criteria.

Funding is then provided to AHS, who in turn allocates funding to address their priority projects, from the supported project list. AHS is responsible for prioritizing, scheduling and delivering maintenance and renewal projects.
