Water Treatment Program
The purpose of the Water Treatment Program is to prevent deterioration of the water systems in Alberta Government buildings that are managed by Alberta Infrastructure, Property Management, or firms contracted to manage these facilities on Alberta Infrastructure's behalf. The water treatment program was initially designed around the governments generic system, primarily utilizing a sulphite and phosphate based treatment. Over time however, advancements in technology and new developments in chemical treatment and testing methods have expanded the opportunities to utilize alternate forms of treatment. In order to maintain a regulated approach to treatment and testing methods, the program is closely monitored by a committee of trained and experienced staff appointed as water treatment coordinators, headed up by the Director of the Water Treatment Program. The department has also engaged the services of a Consultant to inspect and provide advice with regards to testing and treatment of the systems.
The Water Treatment Program Manual was designed as an information source for building managers and operating personnel, on the various types of systems operating within these facilities. It also serves as a reference guide, providing detailed information relative to the water system description, operation and maintenance, water treatment requirements, control tests, chemicals and reagents and controlled emission of chemical waste products.
In order to ensure that the operating personnel are sufficiently trained to implement the Water Treatment Program, the Water Treatment Training Program was initiated to assist in the education of all personnel involved in water treatment. A Water Treatment Training Manual was developed as a reference guide to be used as required and is supplemented with training seminars offered annually by members of the water treatment coordinators committee, with the assistance of the Consultant.Documents on this site require Acrobat Reader 4.0, available for free from Adobe.
