Honourable Jack Hayden Minister of Infrastructure |
Jack Hayden was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in 2007 for the constituency of Drumheller-Stettler. He was appointed Minister of Infrastructure on March 12, 2008.
Mr. Hayden, who farms near Endiang in central Alberta, worked in the oil industry during the ‘70s and ‘80s before holding various municipal government positions. He was first elected to county council in 1989 and served as reeve for the County of Stettler as well as chairman of the local school board.
In 1997, Mr. Hayden became director for the central district of the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (AAMDC). He later served as AAMDC president from 1998 until 2004. Mr. Hayden and the AAMDC board of directors were nominated for an Emerald Award in 2004 and were 2006 Emerald Award finalists for leadership in implementing green technology in building planning and construction.
Over the past seven years, Mr. Hayden has represented community interests on advisory boards in Alberta. Mr. Hayden was a member of the board of directors for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities from 1998 to 2004, holding the position of national chairman of the Transportation and Communication Committee and serving as an Environment Committee member.
In 2004, Mr. Hayden was appointed as the representative for rural and remote Canadian communities on the Prime Minister’s External Advisory Committee on Cities and Communities. As a member of the board, he contributed to From Restless Communities to Resilient Places: Building A Stronger Future For All Canadians, a report regarding the role that cities and communities should play in sustaining national prosperity.
In 2002 Mr. Hayden was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for service to his community and country, and in June 2006, he was placed on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Roll of Honour.
Mr. Hayden is an avid hunter who has also actively coached and played for community hockey leagues. In 2009, his family will celebrate the 100th anniversary of their fourth generation farm. Mr. Hayden lives on a farm near Endiang and has three children.
